Call Out to Venues and Producers for Queer Bath - June 2026

Queer Bath is a bold and inclusive celebration of LGBTQ+ arts, culture, heritage, and history, brought to life across Bath’s museums, galleries, and cultural spaces.

It’s not a standalone organisation, it's a collaborative initiative. Queer Bath is co-created by a growing network of local museums, heritage sites, arts organisations, and community partners working together to explore, honour, and amplify LGBTQ+ stories across the city.

Rooted in authenticity, co-creation and deep research, Queer Bath exists to uncover and share the hidden queer histories embedded in Bath’s historic buildings and collections. It’s a movement towards meaningful representation, historical accuracy, and cultural equity, powered by joint effort, not individual ownership.

This year we are opening out past heritage buildings and museums to include culture venues and spaces across Bath.

Gender Revolutionaries

2026 Queer Bath Theme

This year, Queer Bath invites our collaborators to explore Gender Revolutionaries: figures connected to our city who challenged, reshaped, or transcended the gender norms of their time, and who continue to provoke vital questions about how we understand gender and sexuality in 2026.

From the Chevalier d’Éon - the transgender diplomat, spy, and duellist who made Bath her home - to the Roman emperor Elagabalus, contemporary to the functioning of the Roman Baths and represented in the museum’s collection, whose life defied the binaries of imperial masculinity; and even Mary Shelley, the mother of science fiction, whose time in Bath shaped Frankenstein, who moved in profoundly queer circles and may have had her own intimate relationships with women.

We invite collaborators to look anew at their collections, histories, and the stories of our city through the lens of these and other boundary-breakers, uncovering how Bath has long been shaped by people who revolutionised ideas of gender, sexuality, and identity.

What is the criteria for taking part?

Participation in Queer Bath is simple and flexible. We welcome organisations at all stages — whether you already have an event in mind or are looking to develop something new.

1. Explore or celebrate LGBTQ+ art, history, culture or heritage

Your contribution should meaningfully engage with queer stories or creativity. This could be an existing event, something you develop especially for Queer Bath, or a new idea created in collaboration with our network.

2. Align with Queer Bath’s ethos and values

All participating venues should share our commitment to authenticity, depth, inclusivity and meaningful representation, as outlined in the Queer Bath Manifesto.

3. Contribute positively to the city-wide programme

We welcome a wide range of formats each adding something unique to the celebration e.g. talks, screenings, trails, performances, installations and more

And if you don’t yet have content? You can still take part.

Venues without existing LGBTQ+ programming are warmly encouraged to get involved. Simply tell us about your space and the kinds of activities you’re interested in hosting, and we can help connect you with producers or artists who can develop a suitable event.
