Queer Bath is thrilled to welcome the iconic podcast Bad Gays to the Guildhall on June 22 for a special live recording.
Hosted by Ben Miller and Huw Lemmey, Bad Gays explores the lives of history’s most complicated and controversial queers - from Alexander the Great to Freddie Mercury - asking why we remember our queer heroes better than our queer villains.
In this special episode, they turn their attention to one of Bath’s most infamous bad gays: William Beckford. A well-known bisexual, novelist, art collector, and advocate for social reform - but also a slaver and plantation owner, notorious for a scandalous relationship with a much younger man - Beckford’s story reveals some of the darker chapters in the city’s past.
Hosted by local drag performer, queer academic, and Queer Bath partner Nik Jovčić-Sas, the evening will include the live podcast recording followed by a Q&A with Ben and Huw.
Join us for a thought-provoking dive into queer history - and a bit of Bath’s own hidden past.
